A 10-foot wide path for walkers and cyclists, part of the Town of Miami Lakes’ Safe Routes to School Miami Lakeway Project, was ceremoniously opened on June 22nd.

A goal of the project is to improve pedestrian traffic along Miami Lakeway North and Miami Lakeway South. The new sidewalk was funded with a state grant, according to Mayor Manny Cid, and built in coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation with- out disturbing the town’s tree canopy, officials said.

It provides a safer link between the Miami Lakes K-8 Center and Miami Lakes Middle School.
