4 FIU Track & Field standouts earn USTFCCCA Academic honors

Four Florida International University track and field standouts were recently honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. Clarissa Cutliff, Asha James, Gabrielle Rains, and Reed Service were all recognized for their academic achievements during the 2019 track and field season.
 Cutliff (3.83 GPA in psychology), James (3.54 GPA in psychology), Rains (3.53 GPA in sports and fitness) and Service (3.28 GPA) all advanced to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Prelims qualifying them for the honor, along with their impressive grade point averages. Cutliff and Rains also advanced to the NCAA Championships in the high jump and discus, respectively. 
 To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds). 
Additionally, both the men's and women's programs were honored by the USTFCCA for their academic accomplishments. The men's team held a cumulative GPA of 3.04, while the women came in with a 3.4 GPA. 
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
