American High’s softball team won its ninth consecutive district playoff championship with an 9-5 victory over Krop.
American senior captain Viviana Reyes, a Miami Lakes resident who transferred from Goleman, finally captured a district title with the Patriots after losing out on three opportunities with the Gators.
Reyes led her team to a 18-5 victory over Hialeah in the district semifinals and against Krop to claim the championship.
American defeated Coral Park, 20-10, in a wild game in the regional quarterfinals, setting up yet another showdown against playoff rival Coral Gables.
The Patriots and Cavaliers meet this week for the fifth consecutive time in the postseason with Coral Gables leading the series.
“Making the decision to transfer to American has paid off,” said her father Manny Reyes Jr. “She leaves as a champion.”
