Autism Soccer program needs community support

Oscar Amuz, a former 2nd Division soccer player, has founded the Miami Lakes-based Autism Soccer (AS) as a nonprofit organization 501(c)-(3) that teaches fundamental soccer skills to children with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities.

AS provides a supportive environment which encourages a life-long love for exercise while also helping to fight obesity. By practicing soccer drills, children can increase fine and gross motor skills, encourage communication and social behavior, including the ability to follow directions, and take turns, while having consideration for teammates.

AS does not charge its athletes any fees and is dependent on contributions from businesses, civic groups and the general public to provide equipment and supplies for training, as well as operations and administration of the organization.

Autism Soccer is located at 15165 N.W. 77 Avenue (Wellness Way), Suite 1006. For more information, visit AutismSoccer.org, or call 305-469-0895.
