The final two events in the Town of Miami Lakes 2017 Senior Games – a Basketball Free Throw and a Basketball Three Point contest – were held in late August in the gym at Shula’s Athletic Club.
Winners by age group in the Free Throw event were Ed Londono (50s), Mike Weber (60s), Jim Hamilton (70s) and Victor Fernandez (80s).
For the Three Point contest, Londono took top honors in the 50s group. There was a tie between Juan Iglesias and Fred Rodriguez in the 60s age group. Dave Oliver was first in the 70s group and Fernandez won the 80s group.
After all the Track and Field events, held in April, plus the Senior softball game in February, there was a tie between Fernandez and Rodriguez for most points toward the top Male Winner. Each had 29 points – three for a First Place, two for a Second Place, and one point for a Third Place.
In basketball, Fernandez earned six points while Rodriguez earned four points.
So 83-year-old Fernandez edged Rodriguez, 35 to 33, for the top prize.
