FIU’s Alex Gardner breaks school’s all-time rushing record at 2,221 yards

Florida International University running back Alex Gardner broke the school’s all-time rushing record last week, when he ran for 119 yards, finishing with 2,221 career yards as the Panthers defeated Marshall, 31-14, at Panther Stadium. Gardner broke Rashod Smith’s record of 2,195 yards, as he ran for 18 yards in the fourth quarter and later scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. FIU improved to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in Conference USA play. In their final game of the season. the Panthers lost to Old Dominion 42-18, which allows FIU’s new head coach Butch Davis an opportunity to build on a 4-8 season.
