The Autism Soccer Club of Miami Lakes was recognized by Florida Senator Marco Rubio for the exceptional support it provides to families and children in Florida’s communities. After launching in 2012 the group has encouraged children with autism to develop social skills in teamwork and bonding over soccer. The group was also recognized by Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners for hosting socially conscious initiatives. Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez along with Chairman Esteban Bovo Jr. honored Autism Soccer with a proclamation. The nonprofit teaches a love for soccer, empowering over 2,000 children and adults free of charge. The group is trying to expand operations as there is a waiting list of over 250 children, and they are in the process of raising funds and expanding administrative duties to continue growing and continue reaching children with disabilities.
