When you are 14 and you want to help save the world, what would you do? You can start in your own community, and if you are a Cadette Girl Scout, you can work on a Silver Award project.

That’s the plan for Girl Scouts Chloe Schwinghammer and Emily Wong of Troop 248, local girls who want to reduce obesity by promoting health and fitness.

The Scouts have created the “Fit Fair,” an event that will allow Miami Lakes parents and children to meet and interact with businesses and organizations in the community that promote some type of fitness. From sports programs to dance schools to camping organizations, many groups are set to participate and explain their programs, prices and offer information.

The “Fit Fair” is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at Miami Lakes Picnic Park West, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.

Miami Lakes businesses that promote some type of fitness and are interested in participating may contact 248gstroop@gmail.com.
