Barbara Goleman High’s senior defensive tackle Kamal Barnes was selected to the Miami-Dade County All-Star Team, which lost to Broward County 35-0 in the Miami Dolphins All-Star Game last Friday at Traz Powell Stadium.
Kamal has been a four-year starter and is one of the school’s all-time leaders in games played, sacks, tackles and three blocked punts this season.
The 5-10, 230-pound player recorded eight tackles (4 solo) and 2 sacks for the Gators, and is expected to announce his college choice next month.
But sports take a back seat as academics is Kamal’s No. 1 priority in high school and college.
“My goal for college is to major in engineering and to keep my GPA higher than a 3.5, and my second goal is to become a member of the football program and become a powerful asset to the team.,” he said.
“I also plan on training hard and helping out where I’m needed and respecting the goals and policies of the team as well as the team’s players. I’m a great team player as well as a great team leader because my goal is to walk across that stage at graduation making God, myself and my parents proud and on to becoming a professional NFL Player one day.”
