The annual Great Strides Miami Lakes Walk to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at Graham Park at the corner of Bull Run Road and Miami Lakeway North.
The event is an initiative of the Mike Quesada family of Miami Lakes whose son, Danny, has diagnosed over 15 years ago with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a genetic disease affecting the lungs and digestive system. The disease causes abnormally thick mucus which results in frequent life threatening respiratory infections and continued hospitalizations. There is no reversal of the effects.
Since then, there have been big improvements in the treatments and medicines available to Danny and other CF patients. Life expectancy rates have changed from 32 to 35, and now to 37. At the rate the medical research is going, the Quesada family has strong hope that those affected with CF will be able to reach retirement age someday. Therefore the need for continued support of the intensive medical research that can be funded at the Great Strides Walk.
Donations by interested persons or organizations may be made online at the Great Strides web link, or with a check made payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and mailed to Link Construction, c/o Danny Quesada, 5350 N.W. 77 Court, Doral, FL 33166.
