Hialeah Gardens' Jordi Avila part of FIU’s recruit class of soccer stars

Hialeah Gardens High graduate Jordi Avila was among Florida International University’s signing class of nine student-athletes, including three from Major League Soccer (MLS) Development Academies.

Head coach Kevin Nylen said the signees are expected to make an impact during the upcoming 2017 season. 

Avila, of the Orlando City Soccer Academy U18 Club, was the No.12 prospect coming into his senior year by College Soccer News. He was ranked No. 48 in the IMG Top 150 rankings and named to the 2016 NSCAA Youth Boys All-South Region Team.

Avila was a former U.S. National Team pool player with the U14, U15, U18, U17 and U18 programs. 

On FIU’s roster, Avila joins Doral Academy alumni Owen Green of the Real Miami Club; MAST Academy graduate Teo Papazian of the Kendall Soccer Club; Houston, Texas’ own Juan Agreed of the Dynamo Academy Club; Philadelphia’s Mohamed Conde of the the Philadelphia Union Soccer Academy Club; Cannes, France’s Hugo Fauroux of Lake Erie College; his fellow countrymen Jordan Machado of the University of Montpellier; and Norway’s Simen Olafsen from the University of Connecticut.
