The Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) mens volleyball team was 2-3 in their last four matches, losing to Kropp and Braddock but defeating Coral Park and Barbara Goleman. The volleyball team played in the Greater Miami Athletic Conference Championship which determines who is the best team in Miami-Dade County on April 10 and lost to Palmetto in straight sets.
All these matches prepared the Trojans for their run at a District championship which they last won in 2012. The Trojans were runners up in 2016 and 2017 losing to their district rival Slam.
HML hosted the District 13 volleyball championship on April 16 and came in as the #1 seed and played the #4 seed Westland. The Trojans came out victorious versus Westland in four sets. In the other semifinal match, Slam, the #3 seed defeated Miami Springs, the #2 seed, to set up a showdown versus the three-time District Champion Slam and HML.
It was a game that could be coined an “ESPN Classic” that went five sets. In an exciting, hard fought game, the Trojans came out as champions. The Trojans volleyball team played one of the best games of their careers and they are the 2019 District 13 Champions.
