The third annual Mad Dog Mandich Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, March 13 at Don Shula’s Golf Club, an event to celebrate the life of the late great Jim Mandich, who played eight seasons for the Miami Dolphins.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
Miami Dolphins alumni are scheduled to compete in the event.
Mandich lived in Miami Lakes for 36 years.
He was the Dolphins’ second round draft pick in 1970 from Michigan and played on two Super Bowl winning teams, including the only NFL undefeated team in 1972.
The tight end finished his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In his post-NFL life, Mandich was the voice for the Miami Dolphins games during radio broadcasts and was the radio sports talks show host on WIOD 610 AM from 1983 to 1987.
He was known for his trademark soundbite "All right, Miami!" When he gave out the call-in number for cell phone users, he playfully told his radio listeners to call "if you're riding around with the windows down.
Mandich died of cancer in 2011.
