Mater Lakes varsity basketball team competed at Betty T. Ferguson Center in Miami Gardens in the 2016 Dade County Boys Varsity Basketball League Championship, and won first place on October 20.
Coach Juan Urbina is in his fourth season as head coach of the basketball program, one of the popular athletic programs at Mater Lakes. The team was victorious in the championship due to his leadership alongside the athletic talents of his senior athletes, Kevin Cata, Jurik Morales and Donovan Alvarez, and their very own “Super Sophomore” Cyrus Largie.
“The future is extremely bright and the Bears are looking forward to having their best season in the schools’ history,” exclaimed Urbina.
