Mater Lakes Dance Team and Cheerleaders take top rankings in competitions

Mater Lakes Academy’s cheerleaders and dance team competed in early March at the Florida Cheer and Dance Association’s “Beach Battle” Competition held at Miami Norland Senior High. The dance team placed in five competitions and won four of them.   

The high school team won first place Platinum in Varsity Jazz and Varsity Lyrical and then received second place overall in Varsity Lyrical. The middle school team, placed first place Platinum in Junior Varsity Jazz and Junior Varsity Variety. The Mater Lakes dance team, “The Grrlettes” are coached by Dance Instructor and fifth year coach, Jennifer Dabalsa. 

The cheerleaders also had both middle school and high school teams compete and both were victorious. Both the middle school and high school teams won the Spirit Award Overall. The high school team won first place in their division in varsity as well as placing first out of all the high school divisions. The middle school team won second place in their division. The varsity team is coached by Damarys Ferrer. The middle school team is coached by Lauren Badal, math teacher at Mater Lakes. 

“Our hard work definitely paid off. We are so proud of our team and what a great job they did,” said  Ferrer. Both the cheerleading and dance team are excited to bring home more trophies from their upcoming competitions.
