Mater Lakes golfer Gia Culler Guerra makes All-Dade First Team

Mater Lakes Academy golfer Gia Culler Guerra was named to the Miami Herald’s All-Dade First Team for the 2019-2020 season. Gia earned the honor by finishing in 7th place overall in the Florida High School Athletic Association state championship on Nov. 2, according to the Herald.
A seventh grader, Gia shot a 75 in the first round of the tournament and a 79 in the second round to finish seven strokes behind first place at the Pennbrooke Fairways course in Leesburg, Fla.
Coach Eddie Escribano said Gia qualified to compete in the state championship by finishing 5th in the Class 2A regionals, when she shot a 75. She had reached the regionals by shooting an 81 in the District 16 Region 2A tournament, to finish in 7th place.
At the Miami Dade County Youth Fair tournament, Guerra came in 4th place overall with a round of 76.
