On Sunday, September 21, Miami Dolphins’ legendary running back and longtime Miami Lakes resident Tony Nathan was among a group of former players inducted into the team’s Walk of Fame.

The ceremony took place during half time of the Dolphins-Chiefs game at Sun Life Stadium.

Joining Nathan, who was a star at the University of Alabama, in the 2014 class are former defensive end Jeff Cross, cornerback Sam Madison and guard Ed Newman.

Nathan, 57, was selected in the third round (61st overall) in the 1979 draft by the Dolphins, who was depicted as a smart and elusive runner with great pass-catching abilities.

He was dominant during the Dolphins’ 1979-87 era in his role as the starting running back in Super Bowls XVII and XIX.

Nathan accumulated 3,543 career yards rushing and 383 career receptions for 3,592 yards. Nathan, who also garnered 32 touchdowns during his career, is the only player in Dolphins history to rank among the team’s top 10 leaders in career rushing yards and receptions.
