Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame announces new class

    The Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled its Class of 2024.  The honorees will be inducted during a ceremony on Dec. 14, 2024. The Hall provided the backgrounds of the new members: 

--Alex Fernandez is a former pitcher for Monsignor Edward Pace High School, Miami Dade College, the University of Miami, the Chcago White Sox and the Florida Marlins. The Sox selected him fourth during the first round of the 1990 draft. He pitched in the major leagues for 10 years and won a World Series in 1997 with the Marlins.

--Reid Stevenson A town resident and for 30 years, an assistant basketball coach at Monsignor Edward Pace High School. He was a founder of the town basketball program and set up the sport at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School.

--Jose Caballero A longtime resident of Miami Lakes and player in the Geezers softball games at Optimist Park, Caballero is an active competitor in travel baseball tournaments for players older than 50, though he is older than 70. He played at Jackson Senior High School where he was a decorated player. He also coached his three sons at Optimist Park.

--Danny Delgado A former pitcher for Monsignor Edward Pace High School, he was drafted in 1997 by the Seattle Mariners and played six years in the minor league. He is a co-owner of Mayor’s Cafe in Miami Lakes and was a long-time resident.
