The Miami Lakes Optimist Club will be holding registration for the 2015 basketball season, from 9:30 to noon, on consecutive Saturdays April 18 and 25, at Miami Lakes Middle School, 6425 Miami Lakeway North.
Late registration and tryouts will be held on Saturday, May 2.
Boys and girls players from ages 7 to 18 must bring a copy of their birth certificates and be fitted for their uniforms. The registration fee is $150 per player.
The 6-week regular season starts Monday, June 8, with each team playing two games per week from Monday through Thursday. The games will be played at Hialeah Gardens and Barbara Goleman high schools.
The teams with the best records will qualify for the playoffs to crown champions in each division.
Last year, 350 players participated in the basketball program.
For years, the basketball program at Miami Lakes Optimist has been popular and produced NBA players such as Cleveland Cavalier and former Miami Heat guard James Jones and Portland Trail Blazers guard Steve Blake.
