Our Lady of the Lakes chess club competes in USCF championship

Our Lady of the Lakes (OLL) chess club had an incredible time at the USCF rated, 2019 South Championship presented by the Florida Scholastic Chess League.
It was a grueling eight hour endurance test that pitted the OLL students against South Florida’s best scholastic chess competition under the leadership of chess club moderator, Dominic Cama, assisted by Fanny Medina and Ivan Santiago.
The results of the competition that are listed energized the members of the club for future competitions.
In Section K-1 individual competition, Liam Giberson won a third place trophy. In Section K-1, seven schools competed and the OLL team of Liam Giberson, Gabriel Santiago, Christian Pumariega, Andre Lorenzo and Joaquin Falcon won a second place team trophy.
In Section K-3, 13 schools participated and the OLL team of Daniel Espejo, Lucas Falcon, Mason Martinez, Lucas Inestroza and Michael Martinez also won a second place team trophy.
In Section K-5, 14 schools competed and the OLL team of Giancarlo Gandarilla, Ivan Salinas, Marcelo Tobenas, Elizabeth Santiago, Monica Espejo, Lordes Martelly, Aidan Lopez, Maiko Llanes, Christian Besu, Anneliese Lemoine and Jonathan Gonzalez won a fifth place team trophy.
In Section K-8, the OLL Team of Diego Rodriguez, Nicholas Casadevall and Desi Gonzalez placed seventh out of 15 teams.
