Pace cheerleaders prep for 2020 season at cheerleading camp

The Monsignor Edward Pace High School (PACE) cheerleading team is ready to make history in 2020. The program’s elite status in high school cheerleading was solidified with the team’s success during the 2019 competitive season. The Spartan cheerleaders finished as runner-up champions in both the Extra Large Non-Tumbling division of the Florida High School State Championship and the District 4 Florida Regional Championship.
As they embark on the new season, coaches Surella Rodriguez and Lisa Mason train the members strategically to prepare them for the pressure of repeating a strong season. “We have to focus on teaching technique and training the new members on the duties and responsibilities of a PACE cheerleader” Mason explained.
Considered the primary ambassadors of the athletic department, the cheerleading program at PACE is classified as an all-year sport. The cheerleaders participate in events such as football games, basketball games, pep rallies, school presentations and competitions.
As part of their service to the community, they host cheerleading camps and tournaments for schools under the Miami Dade and Broward Catholic Conferences. Each member accumulates 50 hours of community service every season and the current team’s grade point average is a 3.8.
The new squad is exceeding expectations during summer practices. Yet the first demonstration of teamwork and performance will be at the world-renowned Universal Cheerleading Association’s camp. The four-day spirit camp gives teams the opportunity to learn routines and skills to showcase.
The Pace cheerleaders plan to have a strong showing at camp and a successful season that will make history for the school resulting in a state championship banner.
