Since its opening in 1963, Shula’s Golf Club, then known as Miami Lakes Country Club, has hosted an annual member-guest tournament. Each year, the event had themes like Country Western, Irish, Mardi Gras and countless others. This year was like no other, with the popular “Game of Thrones” TV show as the theme.
For three days, 28 teams of members and their guests competed for prizes in five different skill flights each named after the houses in the popular TV show: House Stark, House Targaryen0, House Lannister, House Baratheon and House Tyrell.
After three days of golf, food and fun, including a final-day five team shootout, long-time member and clutch putter Miguel Salguero and his very skillful guest Jorge Iglesias from the House of Baratheon were crowned champions of the 2018 Shula’s Golf Club member-guest tournament.
The fun did not stop there. As Director of Golf Kenny Fill served as master of ceremonies for the dinner and awards session inside Shula’s Steak house, two special guests, Tyron Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, mingled with and posed for photos while carrying on medieval conversations.
