St. Thomas University’s soccer team has added another young international star for the upcoming season who made an impact on the field as a player of a growth squad in England.
Central defender Harry Molyneux will join the Bobcats as a freshmen for the 2016 men’s soccer season, according to head coach Felix Mats.
Molyneux previously played for the Luton Town Cedars, a development squad for a fourth tier English professional football club.
“I feel that Harry can make an instant impact on our back line,” Mats said. “He’s an intelligent player who is very good defender with the ability to come to a tieback with the ball. We are happy to have him join the St. Thomas University family.”
Molyneux is the latest international soccer player to join STU for the 2016 season, giving the Bobcats additional precocious players to compete in The Sun Conference.
Last month, Filippos Triantoulis, a midfielder from Karditsa, Greece, signed to play for the Bobcats for the 2016 season by way of the American Community School of Athens.
Seiya Takahashi, a defender originally from Tokyo, Japan, also joins the Bobcats after he transferred to STU from University of Cumberlands in Kentucky.
Mattias Hanna, a center midfielder from Sweden will suit up for St. Thomas as well as a junior after he transferred from Rock Mountain College, where he was part of teams that won championships in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and advanced to the NAIA National Championships in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
The Bobcats finished last season 11-6 (7-2 in The Sun Conference) and lost to Southeastern in the championship game 2-1.
