The biggest victory in school history for the St. Thomas University Women’s Cross Country team came during the University of South Florida Invitational last month, when the girls won the non-NCAA Division One Championship.
For the Bobcats, four of the six women runners finished among the top seven finishers.
Freshmen Andrea Peterson finished with a 20:52.04 race time to finish fourth among non-NCAA Division One runners.
Her teammates, Aylwyn Hernandez (20:53.93), Susana Gutierrez (20:53.93) and Emily Hernandez (20:57.36), finished in fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Katerina Alvarez (22:46.41) finished in 30th place and Katalina Pineda (29:24.89) in 67th place to round out the historic victory for St. Thomas University.
The team, as a unit, finished in first place with a total time of 1:46:25.87 and an average time of 21:17:18.
The Bobcats defeated NAIA and NCAA Division Two opponents that included Nova Southeastern and Ave Maria en route to the USF Invitational Championship.
