STU men’s soccer team captures second Sun Conference championship

St. Thomas University men’s soccer team, (9-1-1, 8-0 TSC) recently clinched their second consecutive regular season Sun Conference championship as the Bobcats continued their dominant run through the Sun Conference with a 3-0 win over host Webber International (2-8-1, 0-6-1 TSC), followed by a victory over Johnson and Wales.

The latter victory marked the eighth regular season Sun Conference championship for St. Thomas with the last regular season title coming in 2012.

Federico Moronell and Jon Quintana each scored goals for the Bobcats. The scoring was opened up by Moronell, early on in the match in the 11th minute, the goal was his team leading 12th of the season. Just before the halftime whistle the Bobcats netted another goal, this time from Quintana, his third of the season off an assist from Danny Martinez, which was his third.

Goalkeeper Connor Christie recorded another clean sheet for his efforts  in net, only needing two saves behind the strong defense of the Bobcats.

STU has now outscored conference opponents 29-2 with five shutouts through its seven conference games played this season.
