St. Thomas University head baseball coach Jorge Perez has been named as a 2019 ABCA/Diamond NAIA Regional Coach of the Year for the third time in his career following the Bobcats’ second consecutive Avista NAIA World Series run.
Perez, who is also St. Thomas University’s athletic director, guided the Bobcats to the program’s seventh World Series appearance, third-in-five seasons, and to its second National Runner-Up finish in school history (2015). St. Thomas finished the 2019 season with a 49-15 record and ranked number two in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll of the season.
Perez earned his 400th career win at STU following a 14-2 victory over No. 1 Southeastern in April. The victory placed Perez as the second member of the 400-win club and is second all-time in victories at St. Thomas University (Manny Mantrana, 451).
Over the course of his 11-year tenure at St. Thomas, Perez is 418-237 (.638 winning percentage) and holds the school record for wins (56, 2018) and only two National Runner-Up finishes in program history.
