Phil de Montmollin of St. Thomas University has been named the 2017-18 Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year.

He was honored at the annual Sun Conference meeting. It marked the first time a St. Thomas University SID has won the award.

De Montmollin, in his seventh year as Sports Information Director at St. Thomas, won the award after successfully publicizing the school's 14 varsity sports as the Bobcats collectively won three conference championships and made appearances at five NAIA National Championships in 2017-18.

A mentor to many current students and alumni of St. Thomas University's renowned Sports Administration program, de Montmollin manages a staff of student workers in providing STU's athletic publicity, live broadcasting, statistics and archives. This past season, he directed an effort resulting in school records in social media engagement and game broadcast viewership.

Part of the Sports Information leadership team at the Sun Conference, de Montmollin serves as the league's SID contact for Women's Basketball, Track and Field and Softball.  In addition to his duties at the St. Thomas Athletic Department and with The Sun Conference, the Miami native also serves as an adjunct professor for Sports Media and Broadcasting at STU.

A 1996 graduate of the Sports Administration Master's program at St. Thomas, de Montmollin spent time at the University of Miami and in the motorsports industry prior to his arrival to STU in 2011. A veteran of the South Florida sports media and public relations scene, he also works as a statistician for ESPN, the Miami Heat and Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

As The Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, de Montmollin will now be nominated for consideration for the national NAIA SID of the Year award.
