It all started in 2006 when Alexis Castroman and Alyssa Rodriguez started their journey together in softball.
They played recreation ball at the Optimist Club of Miami Lakes until they were 16 years-old.
Along the way they were teammates since the tender age of 10 playing travel ball for the Miami Lakes Heat Team coached by Alex Castroman.
For some reason it didn’t stop there.
The two girls played one year at Mater Lakes Academy before Castroman ended her career at American High School and Rodriguez graduated from Doral Academy, with both girls earning college scholarships.
Castroman is playing for St. Thomas University, Rodriguez enrolled at Webber International University, and the two girls faced each other for the first time in college during a conference double header game.
The Bobcats won the game.
The game was emotional for both players, as they had to play hard against each other and did a little trash talking.
“It was intense to see them both out there playing against each other. said Alex Castroman. “These girls have been together since they were six-years-old, and always spent their birthdays, beach, New Year’s Eve, together.”
Following the game, the girls sought each other and hugged and reminisced about old times.
Castroman said he, his wife, Ivette Castroman, and Alyssa’s parents, Diana and Alex Rodriguez, are all extremely proud of both girls.
“You couldn’t have a scripted this any better,” said Alex Castroman.
