Two STU softball athletes named to All-Academic Team

Miami Lakes resident and St. Thomas University student-athlete Alexis Castroman was among her teammates who were named to the Sun Conference All-Academic Team for softball.
Joining her were Emily Santos, Nanet Manieri, Dayma Pla, Grethell Santos, McKenna Delaware and Nicole Maribona.
Bobcats outfielder Alliyah Sands took home the top honor as she was named as a First-Team All-Conference member for the first time in her college career.
In her senior season the North Carolina native led the Bobcats in batting average (.377), hits (49), runs (30), doubles (12), while she finished second in home runs (1) and RBIs (21).
In addition Sands was selected as The Sun Conference Champion of Character Award winner. Sands, an outstanding student, who not only serves as a resident assistant at STU but is also doing work-study for the athletic department.
She is the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the secretary of the Economics Club and a member of Cafeteria Improvement Committee. Having worked with the Jason Taylor Foundation on a number of occasions, Sands has also volunteered at Glades Middle School where she has been a part of a Thanksgiving food drive handing out food to families in need. She is also active in volunteering at two different minor league baseball winter meetings.
