Eye Candy is 'sweet addition' to Main Street
Eye Candy, located at 6807 Main Street, opened its doors on June 1 last year. The facility is not your average optometry office, it is a boutique-style optometry office and a candy store. When you walk into Eye Candy you may not realize there is eye equipment in there somewhere because your eyes are drawn to the amazing display of candy and cute eyewear.
Dr. Gianne Castellanos, owner and optometrist, first had the idea of the Eye Candy concept when she was pregnant, she wanted to eat sweets but couldn’t enjoy as much. Castellanos then thought about combining her two loves, sweets and vision and that’s when Eye Candy was born. Castellanos wanted to make eye exams fun for children and adults, patients are given candy during their examinations.
Castellanos has been an optometrist for 10 years after graduating from Florida International University and Nova Southeastern University. She has another practice in Miami Lakes located at 8660 N.W. 155 Street that has been open for about five years.
Many visitors come in simply for candy and don’t realize they can get eye exams. Many people are drawn in by the decor and fun candies they offer. It pays to go in because each customer is greeted with a candy sample. Castellanos wants people to know “this isn’t just a cute store”.
“I want people to experience what great vision truly is. I have always wanted to be an optometrist and I love being an eye doctor. At Eye Candy you'll have the sweetest experience” says Castellanos.
Eye Candy offers candy from all over the world, as well as prescription eye glasses and sunglasses. They carry top brands such as RayBan, Jimmy Choo and Betsey Johnson. They also offer affordable frames and even have their own line of frames called Eye Candy - Eye Craze.
Castellanos prides herself in being the “sweetest doctor in town” as many of her clients refer to her that way. She also feels they offer some of the best eye care in town. Eye Candy is not just a place to buy cute frames or sweets, they do full eye exams, including checking for eye diseases and checking for Orthokeratology which can eliminate contacts and eye glass wear throughout the day for some patients.
Many of Eye Candy’s patients are young children which Castellanos loves. She believes she is making an impact in their life by helping them with their vision at such a young age.
Eye Candy often has a chocolate or candy tasting where they invite anyone to attend and try out some of the different candies they have to offer. It is $10 to attend and there is a raffle at the end.
Eye Candy is open Tuesday through Saturday including late nights to 7 p.m. For more information call (786) 717-7775 or visit www.eyecandymiamilakes.com.
