Five Pace students awarded Jorge Lopez grants

On Friday, September 1, five students from Pace High School gathered on campus at the Dante Navarro Religious Education Center and Chapel for the second annual mass and award reception to celebrate the recipients of the 2017 Jorge Luis Lopez Esq. Family Foundation Scholarship.

The winners of this year’s scholarship were seniors Leticia Saladrigas and Joshua Toledo, junior David Anthony Barbier Jr., sophomore Gaetan Jeudy, and freshman Isabella Cardoso.

The Jorge Luis Lopez, Esq. Family Foundation Scholarship was founded by class of 1979 Pace alumni, attorney and philanthropist Jorge Luis Lopez and his wife, Marile. Over 40 students applied and all of them were invited to attend the mass and breakfast reception where they had the opportunity to speak with the Lopez’s about their individual submissions and were given words of encouragement for future participation.

Each grant of $2,000 is geared towards helping need-based students from grades 9-12 with tuition assistance. Criteria for the scholarship included a 3.0 GPA or higher, sport team involvement and a written essay focused on their perspective on the importance of Catholic Education and why they deserved to be awarded the scholarship.

The application process for Pace students to apply for the 2018 Jorge Luis Lopez Esq. Family Foundation Scholarship will begin in early spring and are notified in the summer.
