The Miami Lakes Barber Shop in the Lake Patricia Shopping Center is the town’s oldest place for men and boys to get a haircut.
Its barbers have continuously shorn gent’s locks since the early 1960s.
Owner Richard Ruiz is carrying on the legacy begun by his late uncle Rolando Ruiz, the town’s first barber who died in July 2021.
Ruiz now spends his day cutting hair and chatting up his regulars and new customers, too at the shop at 13917 NW 67th Ave.
The business has advertised in The Miami Laker since 1971, Ruiz said.
“It’s a local paper,” Ruiz said. “We always like to give back to the local community, everybody reads The Miami Laker.”
His clients include members of the second and third generations of families who live in town, and he says the ads have paid off.
“It goes to their home, we get it here at work,” Ruiz said.
