Foreign Trade Zone approval for M. Lakes company

Miami Lakes-based Miami International Freight Solutions (MIFS), may be headquartered in the town but with the federal approval to become a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) operator the business the firm conducts is far-reaching.

With the FTZ approval under their belt, MIFS, a family-owned business, can provide significant financial benefits to businesses that import and export items such as products, equipment or parts, by reducing or eliminating the duties/fees for products shipped internationally. Companies that utilize such a designation typically streamline customs procedures making the work of importing and exporting efficient and fast.

The management team behind MIFS, president Leonard Roberts, executive vice president George Creech, COO Jose Aguirre, and Operations vice president Chuck Siceloff, share over 25 years of experience in imports and exports. They decided on Miami Lakes as their headquarters because of the convenience the location offers as a midway point between the Port of Miami, and the underutilized Port of Ft. Lauderdale, both of which they work with.

“Doral is congested,” said Aguierre. “Clients want a hometown feel instead of a cookie cutter business. We can supply that by being, conveniently, in Miami Lakes.”

MIFS receives all sorts of freight, including local, interstate, and international via means of truck, railroad, air and ocean. As the name aptly describes, MIFS offers freight solutions, now with the added benefit of FTZ approval.

“We are essentially travel agents for freight,” said Creech.

The MIFS building, which is 200,000 square feet, boasts an array of products from a myriad of industries, some of which are held in storage for years, such as airplane equipment, and others which may leave the location to travel down the street for an Amazon purchase. While they house a number of products they do not store perishables or temperature-controlled items.

MIFS has been a long time operator of a Class 3 and Class 8 Bonded warehouse as well as operating a Container Freight Station (CFS), a Type 14 In-Bond Export Consolidation (IBEC), and having a strong domestic warehouse and distribution operation.
