Pace Biomedical Sciences students visit JMH

In an ongoing effort to provide experiences beyond the classroom, on March 6 the members of Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s (PACE) Advanced Biomedical Sciences STEM Program Medical Intervention class visited Jackson Memorial Hospital (Jackson).
These Academy students who share an interest in pursuing careers in the fields of clinical medicine, biomedical engineering and public health, learned about Jackson’s history and toured their renowned Ryder Trauma Center.
Students had an opportunity to speak to members of the staff who provided them with a real-life perspective of the hospital environment. They were able to stand on top of the hospital’s rooftop helipad and had a chance to hear about the special care that goes into treating their youngest patients at Holtz Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Through this educational field trip, students gained a better understanding and appreciation of the health system in their community at one of the nation’s busiest hospitals and trauma centers.
PACE offers nine signature academies in various fields ranging from Law, STEM and Visual/Performing Arts. These elective courses offer students with specialized curriculum allowing them explore and further develop their future career interests.
