A workshop will be held to present plans to the public about an emergency medical center that is being proposed for Miami Lakes.

The Graham Companies is seeking approval from the Town of Miami Lakes for the center which Baptist Health South Florida would build and operate in Miami Lakes Business Park West.

The workshop is scheduled for March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St., a hospital spokeswoman said.

“The Graham Companies values its long-term relationship with Baptist and looks forward to the completion of a full scale, state of the art emergency facility to serve the residents of Miami Lakes,” Stuart Wyllie, president and chief executive officer of The Graham Companies, said on Feb. 25.

Currently a pasture, the triangle-shaped, nearly 3-acre parcel is at the northwest corner of Northwest 77th Court and Northwest 149th Street.

The location is across Northwest 149th Street from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Station 64 and is east of a senior complex planned for Commerce Way that will include housing for independent residents as well as those who need assistance or skilled nursing, and who will visit a senior community center.

The Palmetto Expressway and Interstate 75 are also close by.

The proposed building is single story, 19,800 square foot emergency department of the type that typically provides outpatient care and treatments for chest pain, stroke, breathing difficulties and severe bleeding, according to the letter of intent filed Feb. 11.

The hospital chain would build the facility on land it would lease from The Graham Companies. Patients who may need to be admitted to a hospital would be taken to another facility.

The emergency department would be the first of its kind in town, according to the letter of intent.

It will join other health care providers in the business park who include doctors and dentists, sleep clinics and the Select Specialty Hospital for recovery from critical illnesses.

The new facility will complement services already offered at Baptist Diagnostic Imaging Center and Urgent Care Center, both located within the Baptist Health Medical Plaza at 14701 NW 77th Ave., a hospital spokeswoman said.
