Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs that are available for the public during March:

For Children and Families: 

Talk, Read, Sing Toddler Storytime – Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their caregivers. Space is limited. Contact branch to register. Scheduled at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, March 9, 16,23 and 30. 

Library Lego Club – Join for monthly Lego builds at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18.

MOVE IT! SHAKE IT! Music for Babies and Toddlers – Nurture your child’s natural love of music with songs, dancers and games designed to foster their development. Contact branch to register. Program made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2. 

STEM Saturdays – Enjoy an interactive lesson and hands on activities with FIU undergraduates and medical students. Contact stemsaturday@gmail.com for more information. Scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4.

Battle of the Things – Thing One and Thing Two are at it again! Tired of the same old story, Thing Two is fed up with his second place ranking and decides to challenge Thing One. Through tap dance, lip-synching and a secret third round, help decide who will be the Thing of the Year! Presented by Miami Children’s Museum at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11. Program made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. 

Paws to Read – A reading program that aims to improve literacy skills of children through the assistance of therapy dogs who serve as literacy mentors. Parents may bring a book or choose one from the branch collection at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11. 

Homeschool Science Class – Learn how to create different science projects. Space is limited and contact branch to register. Program scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15.
Saturday Matinee – Enjoy book-based films that will delight. Contact branch for this month’s title. Presented by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25.

For Teens: 

Teen Club Movie Night – Teen Club presents Sing Street at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, presented by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.

Science and Technology Petting Zoo – Experiment and play with the newest gadgets and the coolest toys from the Mobile Makerspace cart. Designed for ages 12-19 years. Contact branch to register. Scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14. 

Teen Club: Spring Super Smash Tournament – Calling all gamers! Test your skills at the library’s Super Smash Tournament. Winners will move on to the final rounds at the Main Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Prizes awarded to the top players. Bring your own controller or use one at the branch. Contact branch to register. Event at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28.
For Adults: 

Meditation Classes – Join the class for meditation derived from Raja Yoga, a discipline that helps develop inner calm, clear thinking and personal well-being, at 11 a.m. on Fridays, March 3, 10, 17 and 24. 

Big Read 2017 Book Discussion – Join library staff for a discussion of this year’s Big Read title In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner. Meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21.
Color Your Cares Away – Get social and try out the newest trend in relaxation and stress relief. All materials provided at 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, March 3, 10, 17 and 24.

USCIS Information Table – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service staff will provide information, materials and answer general questions about the citizenship process, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27. 

Mario Diaz-Balart Outreach Table – A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will be available to discuss federal issues and address any concerns a constituent may have with a federal agency from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. 

Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
