Catholic Hospice recruiting new Patient Care volunteers

Community Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Catholic Hospice, a not-for-profit health care organization based in Miami Lakes and providing end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and their families, is currently recruiting hospice volunteers to visit patients and their caregivers. Hospice volunteers can help with errands, provide a listening ear or help in other meaningful ways. All interested volunteers will receive necessary training and are partnered with patients who live at home or in nursing homes. Assignments are made according to the volunteer’s preferences and availability.

Catholic Hospice opens 4th Inpatient Unit

Catholic Health Services officials announced in August the opening of the fourth Catholic Hospice Inpatient Unit. The new state of the art unit will accommodate 12 patients in a home-like environment. The Catholic Hospice unit will be located at the CHS Villa Maria Campus in North Miami, 1050 N.E. 125 Street, serving the northeast Miami-Dade area. The goal is to make patients and families feel at home and be able to stay overnight with their loved ones.

Catholic Hospice also provides pain control and symptom management, as well as spiritual and psychological support to over 500 patients and their bereaved families daily and a bereavement camp for children, and other bereavement support groups.
