Cub Scout Pack 660 marks 50th year; 5 earn Arrow of Light

Community Thursday, April 6, 2017

The Cub Scouts of Pack 66, chartered to Miami Lakes United Methodist Church and associated with Miami Lakes K-8 Center for nearly 50 years, celebrated Cub Scouting’s birthday at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet which was held for all Scouts and their families at the church hall.

Aside from awards, skits, songs and Pine Wood Derby race car competition, Pack 660 proudly recognized five fifth-grade Scouts, known as Webelos 2, who earned Cub Scouting’s highest honor, the Arrow of Light. The five are Leo, Zidane, Jake, Fernando and Kenshen.

That award is earned by a Scout who demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of Scouting history and lore, a plethora of Scout related skills, and demonstrate Scouting spirit in their lives.

Banquet chairwoman Adriana Schwinghammer hosted over 100 people for the event and summarized it by saying “Scouting promotes the right values and helps boys learn what they need to be men. It is (therefore) important to celebrate Scouts and the Scouting program properly.”

Pack 660 meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 14800 N.W. 67 Avenue. All boys in grades first through fifth are welcome to join and participate in interactive meetings and outdoor adventures including camping, service projects and fun activities.
