October was a good month for Barbara Goleman Senior High School freshman Alain Sanchez, 14, of Miami Lakes.
Alain was recognized at the Do the Right Thing of Miami, Inc. monthly ceremony in Miami on Oct. 16 and by the Miami Lakes town council on Oct. 21.
“... Alain saw students smoking drugs and became worried about the safety and health of his fellow students,” said Ariadna Espinosa, executive director of Do the Right Thing of Miami, Inc. “He reported it to administration who got the students the help they needed to lead them on a better path, to say no to drugs.”
Espinosa described Alain as a kind student. He is part of the school’s law magnet program, the school said.
During the town hall ceremony, Alain credited his father, Councilman Alex Sanchez, with teaching him how to make good decisions.
The Do the Right Thing organization gave Alain a tablet; a plaque; a free pizza from Papa Johns; an Amazon gift card; two tickets to a Miami Marlins game and tickets to Zoo Miami, HistoryMiami Museum, the Frost Museum of Science and Island Queen Cruises.
Mayor Josh Dieguez presented him with a certificate of recognition for his “outstanding character and civic responsibility.”
U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Miami, Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Miami and Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle sent letters of congratulations to Alain.
