It was Halloween Eve when members of the Elderly Affairs Committee donned costumes to give away more than 100 meals from Casavana Cuban Cuisine at the Windmill Gate Shopping Center to seniors in town. After the coronavirus shut down the committee’s weekly “bingo and lunch bunch” meetings, Committee Chair Dottie Wix organized weekly food distributions for those who can drive and pick up. Freebee delivered meals to those who are housebound. Sponsored by the Town of Miami Lakes and Chen Senior Medical Center, many restaurants have participated in the effort to relieve hunger and loneliness among Miami Lakes’ senior citizens.
The dining spots include Thai Café; Shula’s 2 Steak & Sports; L.A. Sweetz; Giardino Gourmet Salads; Pizza Scene; Vie de France Bakery & Café;; El Novillo Restaurant; Gerardo’s Marketplace; NQC Craft Beer & Grub; Trattoria Pampered Chef; Beverly Hills Café; Miller’s Ale House; Sergio’s Cuban Café + Grill; Jersey Mike’s; Vicky Bakery; Anacapri Miami Lakes and Holiday Bakery.
