Young golfers enrolled with First Tee Miami took over the Miami Lakes Golf Club to help fill divots. They ran behind a golf cart to fetch green sand with small trowels and fill holes on the course.
“It’s an egg hunt, but a really hard egg hunt,” one of the boys on the golf course exclaimed working to fill the divots. It was only the first part of the day for 80 First Tee students on April 2. Their lesson in course maintenance was rewarded with a presentation by the LIV Golf League and its Iron Heads Golf Club team, who performed trick shots, sent balls soaring to the far corners of driving range and answered questions about their sport.
“Part of our initiative out here is the environment and to make things better,” said Kelli Bowers, director of team operations for Iron Heads Golf Club. The goal is to encourage kids to leave things better than they found them and encourage them to clean up while playing on their local courses. It aligns with what First Tee Miami teaches kids who go through its program. Kevin Na, Danny Lee, Scott Vincent and Jinichiro Kozuma also signed balls and hats for the kids, who received tickets to the LIV Golf Miami Tournament on April 6 and 7 at Trump National Doral Golf Course. -- Story and photos by Alexandra Herrera.
