Community Friday, October 10, 2014

The Town of Miami Lakes has planned two Halloween special events including a Senior Social and a Haunted House.

The Elderly Affairs Committee is hosting the Halloween Senior Social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, at Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue.

The event is free and will feature music, entertainment, raffles, and lunch. Prizes for best costume will be given to the Best Female, Best Male and Best Couple.

Space is limited and seniors are asked to reserve seating and/or transportation by calling 305-364-6100 before Friday, October 10. For more information and sponsorship opportunities, contact Special Events and Committees coordinator Clarisell De Cardenas at decardenasc@miamilakes-fl.gov.

Haunted House

Kids of all ages are invited to get spooked at the Youth Activities Task Force’s annual Blockbuster Halloween event on Friday, October 31. The free event will start the “night of fright” at 6 p.m. and keep scaring visitors until 10 p.m. at the former Blockbuster location, 6425 Miami Lakes Drive, in the Cypress Village Shopping Center.

There will be fun activities for the whole family including costume contests and Trick-or-Treating for the younger kids. With more than 100 student volunteers working to keep everyone terrified, it’s sure to be a “Monster” hit.
