JetStream Federal Credit Union serves the community

JetStream Federal Credit Union ended its 75th year with charitable activities that reflect its mission of service in the community.

The financial cooperative that was founded in 1948 when 10 employees with the Federal Aviation Administration decided to form their own credit union now has five branches and $254 million in assets.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Miami-Dade County and three cities in Puerto Rico, and their family members are welcome to join, too.

The credit union offers free online banking, fee-free ATMs and many financial products for individuals, businesses and community development.

It can also provide in-person financial literacy seminars in both English and Spanish for companies.

In addition to participating in past fundraising events for the Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America and other groups, in November it donated toys, food and personal hygiene items to Kristi House, a children’s advocacy center in Miami.

Kristi House serves kids who are treated for sexual abuse, or who were trafficking victims and experienced other traumas.

“As always, the team members enthusiastically joined forces to make a difference in the lives of children within the South Florida community,” JetStream’s President and Chief Executive Officer Jeanne Kucey said in a press release. “We look forward to continued support of this great cause and organization that closely aligns with our values.”

In December the credit union partnered with employees at Eagle Manufacturing of Hialeah to collect toys for the children at Kristi House.

Kucey also appeared in December on Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid’s podcast “305 Vox Populi.”

She explained the difference between banks and credit unions, described her career path and talked about the non-profit’s history.

The credit union, which has a branch at the Royal Oaks Shopping Plaza in Miami Lakes, is also a sponsor of the Miami Lakes State of the Town address.

JetStream has other branches in Miami, Doral, at Mercy Hospital and ATMs at more than 5,000 shared branches. For more information go to https://jetstreamfcu.org.
