Main Street Playhouse (MSP) is presenting Clark Gable Slept Here written by Michael McKeever and directed by John Ferry opening on February 2 at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street in Miami Lakes.
This will be seasoned actor and director Ferry’s first time directing a play at MSP. A New York native, Ferry has performed and toured in 48 states.
“It’s a very funny play. The playwright really did capture an element of Hollywood,” Ferry said.
The dichotomy between the play’s premise and the way the plot is carried out is ironic. Although it’s a play in and of itself, it critiques and observes the secrets hidden behind the curtain in Hollywood.
“The theatre is based on realism, and it’s gritty. You know, film is film,” Ferry explained. “All you need to be good is the right script and 500 takes and the directors in Hollywood can piece together perfect performances. But in the theatre, you walk on stage and it’s all live, it’s all there.”
McKeever is a Miami native and no stranger to theatre here in South Florida. In fact, Clark Gable Slept Here has had runs in Zoetics Stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center and even won the Carbonell Award for Best New Work and Best Director/Play in 2014.
Clark Gable Slept Here sheds light on the dark side of Hollywood with farce humor. It also puts into question popular Hollywood myths; hence the play’s namesake.
The play will run from February 2 to 25 with showtimes Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $30 for adults and $25 for students, seniors and military personnel. Theatre League members $20 with I.D. at the door only.
