Miami Lakes resident Apolo Lagarde V, 18, is shown above being pinned by his mother Martha Lagarde during his Eagle Scout ceremony in December as his father, Apolo Lagarde IV, stands with him at the Mary Collins Community Center.
Lagarde received the rank after completing his Eagle Project, which focused on the restoration of Florida’s coral reef.
Because of delays from the pandemic, Lagarde’s achievement was celebrated six months after he finished the reef project, according to Sean Schwinghammer, scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 566, based in Miami Lakes.
Lagarde is a member of Sea Scout Ship 144, also based in Miami Lakes. He has been involved with the Boy Scouts since first grade, according to Schwinghammer, who provided the photo.
