Main Street Players post auditions for Marjorie Prime

Community Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The Main Street Players have scheduled auditions for Marjorie Prime, a thought provoking science-fiction play by Jordan Harrison, that was a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize. The play is a tale of aging, loss of memory, and the technology that eases both pains.

Marjorie, 85, is feisty and physically fit but battling memory loss. She lives with her quick-witted daughter who faces her own crisis and her daughter’s easy-going husband. Marjorie’s late husband, featured in the form of a 35-year-old holographic version of himself, spends time with her, reliving the precious moments the two shared while he was alive. The play will soon hit theaters featuring Lois Smith, Gena Davis, Tim Robbins and Jon Hamm.

Those wishing to audition must bring a recent headshot and updated resume, one dramatic monologue two minutes long, professional attire, knowledge of the play, and ages within the ranges of the characters they are auditioning for. Additionally actors must note any foreseeable conflicts during the rehearsal process.
Characters:

Marjorie: 85, feisty and witty, battling memory loss.
Walter: Early 30’s, a holographic “prime” who is sent to help Marjorie relive her memories.
Tess: 55, Marjorie’s daughter, tough and direct.
Jon: Marjorie’s son-in-law, relaxed and easy-going.

Actors will be compensated for their performance. To schedule an audition time, email the director, John Olivera, at jono822@aol.com.
