Mater Academy's Onelio Rios earns Carnival grant

Mater Academy High’s football player Onelio Rios was among several Miami-Dade County Public Schools students who earned the Carnival Cruise Lines Foundation Scholarship for mentoring and serving the youths of their communities.
The students were recognized during the Miami Heat-Milwaukee Bucks game at American Airlines Arena.
The academic award will go to the college of his choice for the next five years.
The Carnival Foundation, in partnership with Florida Prepaid College Foundation, annually presents 16 high school seniors with four-year college scholarships.
In addition to receiving the scholarship, students were presented with a new Dell laptop computer to support their studies, compliments of Carnival Foundation, Dell and Microsoft.
