     Activities will be presented via Zoom.

     Space is limited and you must sign up in advance.
     Registrants will receive a Zoom link via email 24 hours before a class begins.

 

Maintaining a Healthy Aging Brain During a Pandemic

Thursdays, Dec. 3, 10

and 17, 1 p.m.

A three-week series on the aging brain, led by doctors from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, followd by Q&A sessions. Ages 55 +

STEM Saturday DIY Robotic Hand

Saturday, Dec. 5, 11 a.m.

Best for ages 5 - 15

During this fun and interactive activity, you will create your own robotic hand using simple materials that you may already have at home. Made possible by FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, James Wilson Bridges, MD Medical Society and the Florida Blue Foundation.  You will need the following supplies:

Cardboard big enough to take the shape of your hand; child-safe scissors; pencil/marker; ruler; glue (hot glue/ Super Glue preferrable; Popsicle sticks; plastic straws and long piece of string to cut into pieces.

Stop Motion Fun! **

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 4:30 p.m.

Learn how to create stop motion films using your cell phone. Materials needed:  Cellphone; Stop Motion app (a free app); construction paper and markers.

Drums for ALL **

Saturday, Dec. 12, 11 a.m.

From the comfort of your home, learn about traditional Japanese Taiko drum rhythms and play along with household items. Learn about sound, rhythm, counting, listening, while drumming together in this all-abilities and sensory-friendly interactive at-home workshop.

Easy FX (Special Effects) **

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 4:30 p.m.

Learn how to create easy special effects such as bruises, cuts and scrapes using rice, cotton and other household items. Materials needed: Gelatin packets, rice, coffee, white glue, optional to make stage blood: corn syrup, food coloring, chocolate syrup, toilet tissue and/or household make up.

Custom Cards **

Saturday, Dec. 19, 11 a.m.

Students will learn how to create custom greeting cards using watercolor techniques and construction paper. Materials needed: Cardstock or watercolor paper; glue; scissors; glitter or tinfoil; plastic Ziploc bag and colored markers.
