Miami Lakes resident Taylor Barimo, who recently earned her Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Florida, is living her dream.
Since she was student at Miami Lakes Educational Center Barimo had her sights set on a career in pharmacy and took one step closer to her career achievement when she attended the University of Florida where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in biology and graduated Cum Laude.
She was then accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Florida, which is currently ranked in the top 10 in America.
Barimo, 25, is now finishing up medical rotations at the Cleveland Clinic.
“I’m excited about my career,” she said.
In high school, Barimo said she knew she wanted to seek a career in the medical field but didn’t know which one. She enrolled in MLEC’s magnet medical program where she discovered pharmacy would be her best career choice.
“I decided to go with pharmacy program,” she said. “The magnet program had many courses like pharmacy, nursing, dental and EMT. Pharmacy was the best fit for me.”
Barimo interned at Walgreens and decided to study pharmacy in college.
At the University of Florida, she boosted up her resume during her undergraduate studies to make her a strong candidate for the school’s pharmacy program.
She was part of a pharmacy society group of students who were planning to apply for the pharmacy program.
“The group participated in certain activities shadowing other students to see what pharmacy is like,” she said.
Barimo is a member of Sigma Alpha, a community service fraternity and philanthropy group which helps raise money for St. Jude Hospital where kids are fighting cancer.
Barimo has been a Miami Lakes resident since 1992.
She attended Royal Kids Academy, Bob Graham Education Center and graduated with a pharmacy technician certification from MLEC.
Her father, William L. Barimo, said he’s proud of his daughter’s accomplishments.
