Miami Lakes K-8 Center’s Model United Nations team attended the Foundations for Leadership Miami Dade Model UN competition held March 9 at Miami Dade College North Campus.
“For the first time in the history of the school’s law program, they took home the Secretary General’s Award for highest performing school at the conference of over 250 students from around South Florida,” teacher Jennifer Simeon wrote in an email.
Miami Lakes K-8 Center also won the Best Delegation in the Security Council award and placed in five committees.
Miami-Dade County Public School’s Department of Social Sciences sponsored the contest.
Miami Lakes K-8 Center’s team represented France, South Africa and Cuba and used their skills to find resolutions on international issues, including sustainable tourism, climate change and artificial intelligence.
